Science and communities unite in favor of the manatee
Amidst the green trees and the birdsong, four Amazonian manatees rest in clean water tanks, under the attentive care of the team at the Centro de Triagem e Reabilitação de Animais Silvestres (Cetras) [Wildlife Triage and Rehabilitation Center] at the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (Ufra) in Belém. Each of these calves has been rescued from the brink of death and each has its own story of fighting for survival. They are the first of their kind to be taken in by the project, which has been operating for 13 years and has already cared for over five thousand animals. Filhotes resgatados da beira da morte, cada um carrega uma história de luta pela sobrevivência. Eles são os primeiros da espécie acolhidos pelo projeto, que tem 13 anos de atuação e já atendeu mais de cinco mil animais.
